Eating rice causes diabetes? Diabetes should calculate total calories

Eating rice causes diabetes ?
Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health in the United States have analyzed the previous surveys in many countries that white rice may increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
“We found that white rice may increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, especially in some Asian countries where white rice is more abundant,” said researcher Sun Qi.
Sun Qi's research team has published a paper in the latest issue of the British Medical Journal, detailing the process of discovering the association between white rice and diabetes.
In the study, the team used the previous statistics on diet structure and diabetes in China, Japan, Australia, and the United States for 22 years. The data integration of the four countries showed that of the 350,000 people in the follow-up survey, approximately 130,000 people eventually developed type 2 diabetes.
According to country classification, China and Japan are 55% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than the United States and Australia. In the United States and Australia, the odds are small. People in both countries suffer from type 2 diabetes. The odds difference is only 12%.

Rice as a staple food has its scientific nature
Xie Cuihua, head nurse of the Department of Endocrinology, Nanfang Hospital Affiliated to Southern Medical University, pointed out that the epidemiological survey results are mainly used to analyze the general trend of a disease in a country or region. The results of Harvard University show that there are problems in the diet structure of Asians. Certain objectivity, but this issue should be viewed in several ways.
There are many reasons for diabetes, and diet and living habits account for a large proportion. The incidence of diabetes in Asians is different from that in Europe and the United States. This is mainly related to the special diet and lifestyle of Asians. Xie Cuihua said that the key to diabetes prevention is rational diet. Eating rice causes an increased risk of diabetes. It does not mean that we cannot eat rice.
How should the staple food be eaten?
Calculating heat is the most critical
“White rice is a carbohydrate, and the proportion of carbohydrates in the daily diet is still very large. In the total calories per day, carbohydrates should account for 50%-60%. Therefore, too much staple food or no staple food at all. It is unscientific to prevent and treat diabetes, so it is too one-sided!" said Xie Cuihua.
Another calculation method is roughly based on height, which is the height (cm) minus 110 and then multiplied by 5. For example, if a person is 180cm in height, then the weight of the staple food required by this person is about (180-110) x 5 = 350g, and the average meal is about 115g per meal.
